The unemployment rate in Canada remained unchanged in April 2023, remaining at 5%, the government agency “Statistics Canada” said on Friday.

This is what emerges from a press release posted on Friday on the electronic site of the federal agency “Statistics Canada”.

This maintenance of the unemployment rate at 5%, ie a level close to the historic low of 4.9%, reached last July, was possible thanks to the creation of 41,000 jobs.

The majority of these 41 thousand jobs created by the Canadian economy are mainly part-time, specifies the text.
It should be noted that this rate of 5% is unchanged for the fourth consecutive month, i.e. since December 2022.

The government agency also specifies that the sectors that have generated the most jobs are those of wholesale and retail trade, with nearly 24,000 jobs.

In addition, educational services created 15,000 jobs, while transportation and warehousing created 17,000 jobs.

Other sectors, continues the same source, have recorded a decline and a loss of jobs. These include the business services and building sectors, among others.

“The employment rate — the proportion of people aged 15 and over who are employed — held steady at 62.4% for a third consecutive month in April,” the statement said.
