Barrett’s Scorching 37 Points Ignite Raptors’ Comeback Victory Over Heat
Fueled by 37 points from star forward RJ Barrett, the Toronto Raptors rallied for a thrilling 119-116 win over the Miami Heat on Sunday. The victory squared the home-and-home series between the two teams.
A Tight Battle Throughout
The Raptors led by as many as 14 points but saw the Heat cut the margin down to one possession in the final minutes. The Heat clawed back with a 14-8 run in the final four minutes, sparked by the dynamic backcourt duo of Tyler Herro, who led Miami with 31 points, and Jimmy Butler, who added 17.
Scary Second Quarter for Toronto
Despite their win, the Raptors struggled to maintain consistent momentum. The Raptors allowed eight turnovers in the second quarter alone, leading to 13 Miami points, and squandered a 10-point lead. While they closed the second half with a 14-6 run, re-establishing a five-point cushion by halftime, it was a costly period that allowed the Heat back into the game.
“It’s just frustrating because those are easy points for them,” said Raptors forward O.G. Anunoby. “[It was] giving up 13 points on turnovers. That’s a lot. We’re a good team when we play good basketball, but we hurt ourselves with those
turnovers.”
Through seven games since returning from a pre-season sprained shoulder, Barrett has shown his affection for playing at Scotiabank Arena. He’s scored 30 or more points in five of those games.
“I appreciate my real estate here,” said Barrett. “When I walk in here, I feel the love… and I feel the motivation.”
Sedric Barnes had a strong performance for Toronto, currently sitting at 6-15, just two assists shy of a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Jakob Poeltl recorded his 14_12 double-double for the Raptors, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Raptors. Rookie Ja’Kobe Walter made his third consecutive start withishwa Gradey Dick sitting out due to a calf injury, posting 12 points and three rebounds.
Miami, sitting at 9-9, struggled to contain Toronto at the rim, getting outscored 68-46 in the paint. Bam Adebayo was limited to 13 points but garnered 20 rebounds for the Heat.

**Host:** The Raptors did falter a bit in the second quarter though, allowing eight turnovers that led to 13 Miami points. O.G. Anunoby expressed his frustration about those turnovers after the game.
**Mark Jones:** Yeah, those turnovers were costly. The Raptors are a much better team when they’re protecting the ball and playing their game. Anunoby’s right to point out that giving up easy points like that can be really detrimental.
**Host:** Ultimately, though, Toronto managed to pull out the win. What does this victory say about the Raptors’ potential this season?
**Mark Jones:** Well, it shows they have the firepower to compete with anyone on any given night. Barrett had a phenomenal performance, and they’ve got other talented players like Barnes and Poeltl who can contribute. They just need to find a way to be more consistent, limit those costly mistakes, and they could be a force to be reckoned with.
