(Ottawa) – Canada’s merchandise trade surplus was $684 million in July, Statistics Canada data show.
The result compared with a revised deficit of $179 million in June, when preliminary data showed a surplus of $638 million.
In July, Statistics Canada reported that merchandise imports fell 1.7% to $65 billion.
Imports of motor vehicles and parts fell 10.8%, with passenger car and light truck imports falling 18.7% after hitting a record high in June.
Merchandise exports fell slightly by 0.4% to $65.7 billion in July, with exports of motor vehicles and parts falling by 5.4%.
In terms of volume, imports fell 2% in July and exports fell 1.5%.
