Canada finds 890 cases of monkeypox, accelerating over 70 thousand doses of vaccine

Public Health Canada (PHAC) reported 890 cases of monkeypox as of Wednesday, of which 423 were from Ontario and 373 from Quebec. British Columbia 78, Alberta 13, Saskatchewan 2, and Yukon Territory 1

Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory is working on a diagnosis of the monkey pox virus. This was coupled with decoding the entire genome from a Canadian smallpox virus sample.

The Canadian government has distributed more than 70,000 doses of the Imvamune vaccine and is actively working with jurisdictions to manage public health responses.

Xinhua news agency reported that The World Health Organization has declared the current outbreak of monkeypox a Public Health Emergency of International (PHEIC) emergency, with experts saying Monkey pox is a viral infection that can be transmitted from person to person through close contact with an infected person. This includes hugging, kissing, massage, or sex.
