After the absence of a public gathering for the Fête du Québec in Sept-Rivières due to a lack of funds and volunteers, Canada Day offers a full program at Parc du Vieux-Quai in Sept-Îles on Saturday, July 1.
A protocol ceremony with raising of the flag and music in the presence of local officers from the Naval Reserve HMCS Jolliet, the RCMP and the Corps of Cadets will mark the opening at 1 p.m. The festivities will follow with activities for children near the water games in the followingnoon and a show under the Yellow Tent from 7 p.m.
Caroline Noël and Guy Porlier of Duo Boréal, as well as Innu singer Laurence Jourdain, will open for the stage. With nearly 40 years of career that has been regularly conducted in France, Florida and throughout Quebec, the singer from Havre-Saint-Pierre will take over around 8:30 p.m. Fifteen-minute fireworks with a soundtrack from the bay of Sept-Îles rounded off the Canada Day program.
“The organizing committee is pleased to announce that the fireworks will take place, with the partial lifting of open fires and the authorization of the City of Sept-Îles,” said spokesperson Nancy Bois. In case of bad weather on Saturday, the show and fireworks will be postponed to Sunday.
