The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) on Wednesday confirmed a total of 604 cases of monkeypox in the country.
Of these cases, 320 were from Quebec, 230 from Ontario, 40 from British Columbia, 12 from Alberta and two from Saskatchewan.
The Canadian federal government said on Wednesday it would fund support for community organizations in the fight once morest monkeypox.
According to PHAC, provinces and territories are reviewing data on cases in their jurisdictions, and those who meet the case definition will be reported to PHAC for inclusion in the national investigation.
The National Microbiology Laboratory performs diagnostic tests for the virus that causes monkeypox. In addition, the lab is performing whole genome sequencing, an enhanced fingerprint analysis, on Canadian monkeypox samples, PHAC said.
