The Canadian government has unveiled a significant policy shift, eliminating the automatic issuance of 10-year multiple-entry visas, which previously allowed international travelers, including Nigerians, to enter and exit Canada with ease. In a recent update, officials indicated that this type of visa is no longer classified as the “standard document” for entry.
This announcement comes as part of a broader initiative by Canadian authorities to manage immigration more effectively, especially after witnessing a dramatic population increase post-COVID-19 pandemic. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) clarified that the cancellation is aimed at regulating the flow of immigrants as the country deals with the challenges arising from a surging influx of new residents.
According to the latest government update, “guidance has been revised to confirm that multiple-entry visas granted for maximum durations are no longer considered the standard document in immigration matters.”
The IRCC has also communicated that immigration officials now possess the authority to decide on the issuance of either single-entry or multiple-entry visas, along with their respective validity periods, marking a significant shift in visa processing protocols.
In light of these developments, it’s worth noting that in October 2023, the IRCC revised its target for permanent residents, slashing the forecast for 2025 from 500,000 to 395,000.
The new admissions target for 2026 has also dropped from 500,000 to 380,000, with Canada set to bring in 365,000 permanent residents in 2027.

Nigerians are often unaware that the eyes of the world are upon us, and despite outward smiles, there is pervasive concern about our situation. It’s imperative that we come together to repair our nation; we must sincerely commit to addressing our challenges. The phenomenon of ‘Japa’—people seeking to leave Nigeria—should not be taken lightly; it’s a symptom of a deeper issue that calls for prayer and serious action.

Canada has become somewhat of a joke in North America! The country appears overwhelmed by its immigration policies.
Having admitted a large number of newcomers without sufficient infrastructure or opportunities to support them, Canada now finds itself in a precarious situation. With strain on healthcare, security, and housing systems nearing collapse, the country is facing significant challenges.
The escalating unemployment crisis is another pressing issue. It is crucial for Canada to make substantial investments to keep pace with its population growth, lest the situation deteriorates further.
I personally invested in that growth and reaped benefits but wish they could still welcome more immigrants.

Until we unify and remove corrupt, self-serving leaders like Tinubu, we will continue to be perceived as lesser beings by nations like Canada. With the right leaders in power, Nigerians should not have to grapple with poverty and hunger.

In a significant development earlier today, the Student Direct Stream and Nigeria Student Express programs have now come to an end.
As of November 8, 2024, Canadian authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring equitable access for all international students seeking study permits.
The Student Direct Stream (SDS), introduced in 2018, aimed at expediting the processing of eligible post-secondary students. Initially available to certain countries, it now excludes those who previously utilized the Nigeria Student Express (NSE).
Canada’s objective remains to bolster program integrity and safeguard students’ welfare while offering a fair application process and a positive academic atmosphere.
As of 2:00 p.m. ET today, both initiatives have been officially concluded, and prospective students are encouraged to apply through the standard study permit route, which accepts Guaranteed Investment Certificates as proof of financial stability.
Moving forward, potential students whose applications were submitted before this cut-off time will still be processed under the respective streams.
This tactical shift will not negatively impact eligibility for study permits from countries involved in the now-defunct initiatives. All applicants must adhere to Canada’s study permit criteria.

Nigerians don’t understand that people are watching and are not happy even when they are smiling. We need to repair our country. There is nothing funny about Japa it’s embarrassing. We need prayer seriously.
The perception of Nigeria is troubling; as we grapple with tribalism and leadership issues, many are frustrated with Tinubu’s appointments.

As per the new guidelines, border officials may grant a one-time entry visa upon arrival or deny entry based on insufficient justifications provided by travelers.

This development is certainly troubling news for Nigerians.

It’s ironic how we once believed going abroad would offer us opportunities; now, our skills are often relegated to menial tasks.
After COVID-19 highlighted the necessity of diverse labor forces, Canada opened its doors to more black immigrants but is now retracting its stance, potentially due to strains in its infrastructure.
This change could lead to further complications for immigrants seeking new lives in Canada amidst an ongoing reevaluation of their immigration strategy.

🤣🤣🤣Canada has become the object of ridicule in North America! The consequences of rushing to accept a multitude of newcomers without the economic infrastructure to support them are now evident.
With pressing issues in healthcare, security, and housing on the verge of collapse, the situation demands urgent attention.
It’s crucial now for Canadian authorities to prioritize massive investments to stabilize and complement population growth, lest they fall deeper into crisis.
My investments related to this growth have proven fruitful, and I yearn for Canada to maintain an open door for future migrants.

The recent rescinding of immigration policies after profiting from them raises questions about the long-term thinking behind Canada’s immigration initiatives.
New immigrants often face dismal living conditions, worse than those they left behind. Some tragically die waiting for proper assimilation.
When considering immigration, it’s vital to explore beyond Canada; numerous nations can offer a better quality of life for those willing to work.
In Canada, high taxes and expensive living conditions can be a significant burden for many.

For the average Nigerian, fleeing the country is a distant dream, as the economy deteriorates, and survival becomes paramount.

The discussion surrounding Canada’s recent decision to cancel the automatic 10-year multiple-entry visas has prompted a wide range of opinions, particularly from the Nigerian community. Several themes have emerged from the comments:
1. **Irony of Opportunity**: Some individuals expressed sentiments about the irony of seeking opportunities abroad, only to find that their skills lead them to menial jobs. This reflects a broader frustration with the perceived undervaluation of immigrant labor.
2. **Infrastructure Strain**: The sharp increase in immigration, particularly post-COVID-19, has been cited as a source of strain on Canada’s infrastructure. This has led to a reevaluation of immigration policies, suggesting a shift in how Canada manages population growth and resource allocation.
3. **Crisis of Identity and Development**: Commentators have pointed out an identity crisis in Nigeria, highlighting stark contrasts in wealth and poverty. The idea of national greatness was debated, especially in light of economic dependency on international loans, which some believe impedes genuine progress.
4. **Investment and Economic Viability**: There’s an acknowledgment of Canada’s rush to accept newcomers without adequately addressing the existing challenges in healthcare and housing. This has led to calls for substantial government investment to ensure that infrastructure can keep up with population growth.
5. **Alternative Destinations**: Some commenters suggested looking beyond Canada as an immigration destination, questioning whether the promise of a better life in Canada truly materializes for many immigrants, who often face challenging living conditions.
the sentiment seems to reflect both disappointment and a desire for more sustainable and thoughtful immigration policies that consider the complexities of both the host country and the nations of origin.
