“I was confused, I was scared, and I literally cried every day.” This is how Brie Duval describes her emotional state following calling her fiancé following five months in hospital – only to find out he left her for another woman.
Duval, 25, originally from Australia, was living in Canada when she crashed off a rooftop bar in an accident in August 2020 and fell headfirst onto a sidewalk.
She suffered multiple fractures, a traumatic brain injury and was flown to a hospital where she was placed on life support in the intensive care unit. Doctors only gave her a 10 percent chance of survival. To aid recovery, she was placed in a coma.

Her parents refused to allow doctors to turn off life support and within three weeks she showed signs of improvement. Luckily she woke up following three months.
But she suffered from amnesia and for two months had no memory of her previous life, including her fiancé. Then, five months following the accident, she finally began to reminisce regarding her life before the coma and tried to call her fiancé of four years – only to find he had left her. He had also blocked her on all social media to prevent them from ever having contact once more.
Brie told the British newspaper „Mirror“: “I opened my phone and was regarding to send him a message when a message came up from this woman saying she was dating him now. I should please stop contacting him.”
Two years later, it’s still traumatic for her that her ex-fiancé completely erased her from his life, she says.
Brie has since moved back to Australia to be close to her friends and family. Her story went viral on TikTok, where she dubbed herself “HotComaGirl113” — following the main character in the Netflix film Senior Year.
The film revolves around a teenage girl who ends up in a coma for 20 years following a cheerleading accident at the age of 17.
