In the last few hours, several readers have expressed uncertainty regarding the drinkability of water in the country’s capital, following the storms and floods of recent days.
Fundamentally, the doubts have originated from two notes shared by Aguas de La Habana (AH). While in the first of them it was indicated that the water was not suitable for consumption, the second was edited and it said that the same Yeah It was drinkable.
Half an hour later, the Havana government itself edited the note declaring that the water was drinkable:
The reaction to both informative notes published from the institutional profile of the Government of Havana has not been long in coming, and there are many users who right now are insecure regarding the quality of the liquid.
“Well, you can explain if it is suitable or not. Because on the Aguas de la Habana page the note says that following the analysis it is suitable for consumption and on the Aguas de la Habana page Government from Havana She says she is not fit. And then ??? Finally yes or no???”, one user asks, while others add:
And why don’t they say what we should do in this case? By just giving the news the only thing they do is worry us, should they indicate what we should do to be able to consume that water or do we have to do without it and turn into weevils?
“The publication is edited to indicate that it is suitable for consumption. When they initially said no. I recommend that those who can for a few days buy bottled water and boil and filter the water. “You don’t really know what they’re trying to do.” indicates a user at the bottom of the post.
The truth is that andhe water that is currently supplied to the residents of the capital is highly turbid, as the directors of Aguas de La Habana themselves have recognized. As explained in the last information note, since the beginning of the meteorological phenomenon, characterized by heavy rainfall, a rapid increase in the level of the Canal was observed, which caused a notable increase in the turbidity of the water:
Since the meteorological event that has been developing since yesterday, where abundant rains predominated, the level of the Canal rose sharply and the turbidity of the water it provides, which reaches the Palatino tanks by gravity, increased.
Since this incident, all relevant water quality tests were carried out, which indicated that it is suitable for consumption.
The level of turbidity will begin to decrease as stability in the climate begins and the rains stop.
This entire situation mentioned above generally affects the municipalities in the center of the capital that receive their water supply from the Palatino tanks by gravity; they are:
- Oct. 10
- Cerro
- Revolution Square
- old Havana
- Havana Center
Aware of the uncertainty generated by both discordant news articles regarding the drinkability of water in the country’s capital, journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso has set out to clarify the situation from his Facebook profile. He assures that the information was corrected and that it is drinkable despite its turbidity:
