“Yes, it’s just vitamins, not medicine, but it’s been a month and the complaints have reduced. So what’s the effect or not? I drink this 1/day,” he continued.

So, is it true that vitamin B complex can be used to reduce complaints of neurological diseases?
Doctor’s explanation
A neurologist from Pondok Indah Hospital (RSPI), Rubiana Nurhayati, confirmed that vitamin B complex can be used to treat and maintain the health of the body’s nerves.
“Vitamin B complex can function to maintain nerve health because of the content of B1, B6, and B12,” he told Kompas.com, Sunday (3/9/2023).
In addition, the B12 content in the B complex vitamins is also used to help produce red blood cells, so it is good for consumption to prevent anemia.
Rubiana said that vitamin B complex can be consumed every day because these vitamins dissolve easily in water and are excreted by the kidneys.

Some of the B complex ingredients are neurotropic vitamins
Meanwhile, Professor of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Zullies Ikawati said that B complex vitamins are included in the type of neurotropic vitamins which have an important role for nerve metabolism.
“Vitamin B complex can help improve nerve function, so it is also known as a neurotropic vitamin,” he said separately.
Neurotropic vitamins are a group of vitamins consisting of vitamin B1 or thiamine, vitamin B6, pyridoxine, and vitamin B12 or cobalamin.
Each type of vitamin has its own use which can help maintain the health of the body’s nerves.
Here are the uses of the three vitamins:
Zullies said, vitamin B1 can play a role in the process of converting carbohydrates, fats and proteins into energy.
The energy produced will be used to carry out cell activities in the body, especially in the nervous system and brain cells.
Then vitamin B6 can help the process of forming neurotransmitters which function to carry, accelerate, and balance the transmission of signals between several nerve cells.
“In addition, vitamin B6 also plays a role in the formation of myelin,” explained Zullies.
Myelin is a white fat protein complex that functions as insulation for axons which has a role to accelerate the flow of information through millions, billions, to trillions of nerve cells in the human brain.
Meanwhile, vitamin B12 has many functions for the body, including helping the production of red blood cells, maintaining the function of the nervous system, and forming DNA.
“Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause numbness and tingling, especially in the hands and feet,” he said.
