It’s finally official: we’re delivering Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine!
“Germany will always be at the forefront when it comes to supporting Ukraine,” said Chancellor Olaf Scholz (64, SPD) in the Bundestag. Nevertheless, this does not turn the Federal Republic into a party to the war: “Under no circumstances will we send ground troops.”
Scholz tied his tank decision to the fact that the USA also delivered main battle tanks (“Abrams”) (31 units). As a first step, Germany is sending 14 main battle tanks to Ukraine, and at least eleven European countries are following suit.
