With the arrival of expected additional content, but also a huge patch, CD Projekt’s game might finally convince.
Throughout the history of ambitious game launches, Cyberpunk 2077 was unfortunately one of the most chaotic. Awaited like a messiah by fans of action RPG and futuristic worlds, the title from CD Projekt (The Witcher) disappointed on almost all points, when it was released on December 10, 2020.
A real cataclysm, which saw the universe freely inspired by the eponymous board game tick all the boxes of a small industrial disaster: bugs by the hundreds, problems with rhythm and clarity in its operation, and even the withdrawal of its versions on PlayStation 4 from the digital store by Sony.
CD Projekt RED: redemption
Far from giving up, the Polish studio has increased its efforts to, little by little, restore the image of its new franchise. Helped by the success of the anime Cyberpunk : Edgerunners on Netflix, which gave players the desire to immerse themselves in Night City, Cyberpunk 2077 then regained strength.
With the announcement of major DLC, Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt even managed to revive the hype. Its release on September 26, accompanied by patch 2.0 correcting a number of mechanical aspects of the title, should help it, finally, to forget its far too tumultuous youth.
Night City 1997
Phantom City fits right in the middle of the main storyline, introducing a whole new neighborhood, Dogtown. A tortuous and disturbing maze that restores character to a Night City that didn’t ask for so much. The scenario is clearly inspired by New York 1997 by John Carpenter, since the hero, V, will have to rescue the president of the New United States, whose shuttle crashed in this sector.
A very successful addition, enhanced by the contributions of patch 2.0 which considerably improve the game’s RPG mechanics and their immediate effects. Three years later, Cyberpunk 2077 finally shows itself to live up to the enormous expectations it had aroused. Better late than never.
