Question to an expert
I have raised several children, will I be entitled to additional quarters for the calculation of my retirement pensions?
To qualify for a full-rate pension, a number of quarters which depends on the year of birth (167, for example, if you are from 1960). You get them through your periods of work, unemployment, illness, national service, etc.
If you have had children, additional terms may be taken into account. Beyond the four trimesters automatically attributed to the mother under maternity, four are attributed under “education”, divided between the father and the mother as they see fit.
You must inform your basic plan of your choice within six months of the child’s fourth birthday. Otherwise, the four trimesters will go to the mother. This possibility of distribution only applies to children born following 2010.
Fathers, like mothers, who have taken parental leave can have trimesters validated for this period as well.
In addition, beyond the quarters, the fathers are entitled, like the mothers, to an increase in pension, the level of which (often 10%) varies according to the schemes, provided they have had at least three children.
For their Agirc-Arrco retirement (supplementary scheme for private sector employees), both parents can also benefit from an increase of 5% per child still dependent on retirement, while the situation persists.
