Can I pay on Instacart with food stamps?

El Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, by its acronym in English) is the largest federal nutrition assistance program, providing benefits to low-income individuals and families eligible through an electronic benefits transfer card.

This card can be used like a debit card to purchase eligible groceries at authorized retail stores.

Who can benefit?

Those who wish to be eligible for this benefit program must live in the state where they apply and meet certain bank balance limits. Households with an elderly person (over 60) or a member with a disability may have an upper bank balance limit.

SNAP benefits, formerly known as food stamps, are issued through EBT or electronic benefit transfer. This has made access to SNAP funds easier and more convenient for millions of Americans, and the increase in online ordering only increases the opportunities.

Does Instacart support EBT?

Instacart is accepting the use of EBT SNAP benefits in a limited number of states, at a limited selection of retailers in 2022.

Customers can add their EBT information to their Instacart accounts and use it at checkout. EBT cannot be used on Instacart to pay for delivery or other fees, nor can it be applied to tips.

EBT SNAP funds can only be used for Instacart-eligible staple foods. The government sets the eligibility of SNAP items and follows the same guidelines as purchases made with EBT SNAP cards at the store.
