can he get there without trading Sean Monahan?

Last week, Kent Hughes gave an interview to the excellent Anthony Martineau. Several topics were discussed, but we can remember this: the CEO of the Canadian has not finished filling up on young players.

In fact, if possible, he would like to add a third first-round pick.

To do this, it is clear that the DG must be on the phone. And right now we’re talking regarding a guy who shouldn’t walk around without his refill since the amount of calls he makeshe must clearly need to give juice to his cell phone.

The DG is at work, therefore.

We know that it might be logical for the Canadian to proceed with a transaction quickly. After all, the CH “wins too much” and the defenders are in a rotation which does not necessarily help them.

Yvon Pedneault, as stated on the radiois particularly of the opinion that the Flanelle might indeed move before March 3. Because, casually, the deadline is only three months away…

No, the GM will not only trade to get a first-round pick, but if his goal is to get one, who might bring him such a loot?

Of the realistic options, Sean Monahan, Josh Anderson, and Joel Edmundson are the only three possibilities that come to mind.

Josh Anderson is a player with an interesting market, but I don’t know if, with his contract, a first choice would be a logical return. However, I expect more and more to see him go… and the GM will not trade him at a discount.

Joel Edmundson? If he really leaves for a higher price than Ben Chiarot last year, as Darren Dreger believes, it might also earn the Canadian a first choice in 2023. Remember that this will be an excellent and deep cuvée.

And of course, there’s Sean Monahan.

Sean Monahan is a different case from the others because his contract will expire this summer. The decision therefore presses more in his case since the CH will not want to lose him for nothing.

I don’t think the Canadian will want to trade the three since management doesn’t want to completely rebuild like the Blackhawks, for example. We must therefore keep veterans.

And I don’t know how badly the club wants four or five first-round picks. After all, these are guys who will turn 18 this summer and will all be a few years away from making an impact in the NHL.

And this is where it gets interesting: might the CH get a first choice without giving Sean Monahan, a question of keeping #91 and city and still picking three times in the first round?

This is an idea that was raised by Darren Dreger ce matin sur les ondes de TSN 690Montreal’s English-language sports radio station.

The idea makes sense, but I imagine that many factors will have to be taken into account. If the CH judges that Monahan’s best value is elsewhere, I still see him leaving the CH within three months.

Almost everyone agrees that Monahan will be tradedbut if ever his injuries were to scare other teams, the Canadian should find a solution.

Let’s not forget, however, that the Canadiens might trade a player for a good prospect who is closer to the NHL than a kid 18 years old. This was done by obtaining Justin Barron in return for the services of Artturi Lehkonen.

Several possibilities are available to the Canadian, therefore.

– Really?

– The question is valid.
