BVB or FC Bayern? Mario Basler commits himself

Dortmund – The “classic” is coming! The self-proclaimed number two in German football challenges the record champions: BVB welcomes FC Bayern on Saturday (November 4th, 6:30 p.m.). A duel on equal terms? Not quite, says Mario Basler.

The former German national player and current expert sees differences in quality. “I believe that Bayern have better quality offensively than Dortmund defensively, because it is difficult once morest Bayern’s offensive. And Bayern is better positioned defensively once morest Dortmund’s offense,” said the 54-year-old recently in his podcast “Basler ballert”.

Mario Basler sees a trend-setting game for BVB once morest FC Bayern

That’s why Basler “more believes in a victory for Bayern, because Bayern’s assertiveness in the offensive area is brutal at the moment. Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane,” Basler lists just three players from Munich’s offense, “that’s crazy.”

For BVB, the upcoming duel once morest Bayern, in which the next top star is out, points the way, says Basler. “If you lost now, you would be five points behind Bayern. Theoretically, you might be seven points behind Leverkusen if they win in Hoffenheim.” After nine Bundesliga matchdays, the Westphalians are in fourth place in the table (21 points), two points behind FC Bayern (23 points).

Mario Basler: BVB “haven’t had any big opponents yet”

Basler, who once played for FC Bayern, puts it this way: BVB “haven’t had any big opponents so far” in the still young Bundesliga season. “Dortmund didn’t play once morest Leverkusen or once morest Bayern.”

BVB now has “the burden of proof to show that they can win once morest a big player.” Against FC Bayern, BVB only managed to do this twice in their most recent 15 meetings across all competitions. This compares to twelve black and yellow defeats.
