As a long-time teammate of Robert Lewandowski, Franck Ribery obviously knows the top Polish striker very well. The Frenchman has now warned his former employer once morest detaining Lewandowski, who is willing to emigrate, once morest his will.
Despite the end of their contract in 2023, Robert Lewandowski and Pini Zahavi in particular are driving an early departure from Munich towards Barcelona. So far, however, the Bayern bosses have been stubborn and have repeatedly and emphatically pushed the change forward. The danger of an explosion is consequently in the air, especially since Zahavi recently stated that Bayern have already lost Lewandowski as a person and are in the process of destroying his lifelong dream.
Ribery shows understanding for Lewandowski
The former Bayern star Franck Ribery showed in an interview with the Polish portal “Wirtualna Polska” that he might “totally understand” his old companion. Lewandowski needs “a new challenge” following eight years at Bayern Munich. Accordingly, the Frenchman hopes that a change will work out: “I wish that it will come true,” said Ribery.
The 39-year-old has always been loyal to FC Bayern, but has also come close to a change at one point or another. That’s why he can understand Lewandowski’s situation all the better. “Do not get me wrong. Bayern is a great club, one of the biggest in the world. But sometimes you need a change and that’s the case with Robert.”
Lewandowski whereregardings a risk?
He even sees it as a “risk” if FC Bayern forces Lewandowski to stay. Accordingly, a player might be “frustrated and angry” in this case. In Munich they rely on the professionalism of the striker, but it is well known that Lewandowski likes to retire when he is dissatisfied.
But Ribery can also understand that Munich is not willing to “willingly sell the best striker of recent years”. Now he just hopes that a solution will be found “that makes everyone happy”.
