CAN 2025 qualifiers: Lionel Mpasi underlines the importance of starting the campaign well

The Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have begun their gathering for the first two days of the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), Morocco 2025. They will face the Syli National of Guinea and the Walyas of Ethiopia respectively on Friday, September 6 in Kinshasa and Monday, September 9 in Dar-es-salaam in Tanzania.

The first arrivals were recorded this Monday morning and the whole group will be complete this evening with the last arrivals with the bulk of the troops. And among the arrivals, we have Lionel Mpasi who is making his return after missing the last gathering in June.

“It’s a great pleasure to be back in the national team after the CAN. I got injured just after this competition but it’s a great source of pride to be back in this team. In June, I saw them and I only wanted one thing, to be with them and so, I’m happy. Nothing has changed in the group. The atmosphere was as it was. I wasn’t there but we wrote to each other quite a bit and now I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again so that we can prepare well for Friday’s match. It’s an important match for the African Cup of Nations campaign and we’re keen to start it off well.” We are going to work hard this week, listening carefully to the coach’s instructions and we are going to be ready to face this match against Guinea, which we met at the CAN and we know that it is not going to be easy, but we also know that we are at home and we are keen to make the Congolese proud,” he confided to the federation’s communications department.

The Congolese Fauves are regaled with their 4th place in Ivory Coast and are called upon to defend their semi-finalist rank. They will have the opportunity to show it during these two days where they will have to show a lot of attention in front of opponents who know that they are playing one of the favorites of this tournament.
