The resounding defeat of the now libertarian Ariel Rivero in Campo Grande accentuated a trend that had already been pronounced in the April elections in the Alto Valle Oeste and in other municipalities in the region: the fall of local ruling parties.
On Sunday, the Peronist Daniel Hernández achieved a solid victory in the Rio Negro town and from December 10 he will command the destinies of Campo Grande. With the seal of Nos Une and supported by two important figures in provincial Peronism in the corridor such as Daniel Doñate and Pedro Dantas cHe received 1,761 votes once morest the 895 that Rivero, the current communal leader, who in April was a candidate for governor of Río Negro for the Milei space, gathered.
The UCR was far behind thanks to Eduardo Altube with 376 votes and in fourth place was the Juntos Somos Río Negro candidate César Jara with 280. According to the provisional count, Hernández achieved almost 50% of the votes and doubled Rivero’s who achieved 25%.
The libertarian analyzed the defeat on RÍO NEGRO RADIO and assured that it was due to waste. He also questioned the province’s decision to hold elections so far from the change of government: “I maintain that calling elections in April was wrong, Today we have an ungoverned province. That is why in Campo Grande we chose to do it now, a few days before the mandate ends,” he said.
On the marathon election day in April The two northernmost towns of the corridor also suffered defeats from the local ruling parties: Peronist Daniela Salzotto won in the first round in Catriel and defeated the current provincial legislator Carlos Johnston. ANDThe veterinarian was mayor between 2011 and 2019. Then his wife Viviana Germanier came to the mayor’s office.
The couple that promoted the Movic neighborhood party fell apart in recent periods and it arrived decimated at the last elections. With little provincial support, especially from the current governor Arabela Carreras who visited the town only a couple of times in her entire administration.
In Cinco Saltos it was also a defeat for the ruling party: the Peronist Liliana Alvarado fell into the hands of a neighborhood party that promoted Enrique Rossi. Despite the strong campaign promoted by the elected governor Alberto Weretilneck to recover the city, it was not enough and his candidate came fourth.
The ruling parties managed to maintain the municipalities of Cipolletti and Fernández Oro, both with new names. Cipoleño mayor Claudio Di Tella did not seek re-election and it was Rodrigo Buteler who managed to win by a narrow margin and thanks to the collectors and the “great agreement” that Weretilneck promoted, among others with Doñate and Dantas.
In Oro, Gustavo Amati from Juntos Somos Río Negro will have the post. The current mayor Mariano Lavín, who came to power in 2015, did so with a neighborhood party and although he was flirting with another force for the moment, he was part of the great agreement with the provincial ruling party. He is a current candidate for deputy for that force.
