Zero out of two. The results of Camille Rast and Mélanie Meillard are very poor in Mont-Tremblant (CAN). On a terrain that they were discovering, the two Valaisannes never found the rhythm and returned to Europe with a giant lack of certainty. Especially since the observation was already the same in Killington, where the two young skiers had failed to qualify for the second round, before bouncing back in slalom.
A trust to rebuild
“As a giant, I’m not there and even less on this track,” notes Camille Rast, 37th on Saturday and 35th on Sunday. I also lack confidence in this discipline. I miss good workouts too. I need to find myself as a giant. My ski is a nice school ski but in the World Cup, it doesn’t go fast enough. Now, we have to be able to put some confidence into it to succeed in letting the horses go.”
Eliminated on Saturday and only 43rd this Sunday, Mélanie Meillard is in a situation quite similar to her training partner and friend. “Today I didn’t make a turn so it’s a deserved result,” she grumbles. I mightn’t find the right way, the right aggressiveness to ski on this snow. I didn’t really know what to do and as a result I suffered more than anything else.”

However, the results of the trip to North America are not entirely negative. “My slalom in Killington was pretty good,” recalls Mélanie Meillard. As a giant, I hoped for better, but I’m learning for the future.” Same observation for Camille Rast. “In slalom, I still showed some good things,” smiles the woman who took 12th place between the tight stakes at Killington. So, I’m really going to continue to concentrate on slalom, in my favorite discipline, to continue my progress.”
Working in Valais
On their return to Valais, Denis Wicki’s two protégés will have to get back to work, in order to improve between now and their next meetings, before Christmas in slalom in Courchevel, then during the holidays in Lienz. “We knew it, but there is still a lot of work to do on a giant scale,” underlines Mélanie Meillard. It’s really a secondary discipline for me but I want to insist. But you have to work.” A work that she will therefore carry out in her small group in Valais, with Camille Rast, who plans to do cross-country skiing and physical training (to treat her knees) before finding her alpine slats. “As a giant, we are going to start from a little further away and get back to basics with the idea of regaining this confidence and succeeding in pushing to the end,” specifies Vétrozaine.
As often since they were little, the trajectories of Camille Rast and Mélanie Meillard once once more follow the same curve. It remains for the two skiers to manage to change their inclination.
