Midfielder of the Cameroon national team Gael Ondua, who has Russian citizenship, declared “Match TV” that he received threats because of his performance at the World Cup in Qatar in boots with the flag of Russia.

Ondua in March accepted the decision to play for the Cameroon national team and was the only player with Russian citizenship at the tournament in Qatar. On his boots were depicted flags of Russia and Cameroon.

“There were very difficult moments. For example, following the whole world saw my boots with the flag of Russia. People spoke bad words. Threatened,” said Ondua. He confirmed that he received threats on social networks.

“At some point, my mother saw everything that was written in the media. It hurt her that people do not know me and say such things regarding me. It was everywhere – all over the world, ”added Ondua.

The football player noted that he received a lot of support from fans in Russia. “Honestly, I did not expect such support. I am sincerely very pleased! This support helped me,” Ondua said.

The Russian national team at the end of February was suspended from tournaments under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA and excluded from the World Cup qualifying tournament.

FIFA Press Secretary November 27 declaredthat the disciplinary committee of the organization knew regarding Ondua’s boots, but would not punish him, because “this is the flag of his country.”

Ondua lived in Russia since childhood, his father was an employee of the embassy. The midfielder is a graduate of Lokomotiv, played for Anji, and has been playing for Hannover since last season.
