Cameroon: Rigobert Song new coach

Former Cameroon international Rigobert Song has become Cameroon’s new coach. The Cameroonian Federation (Fécafoot) announced that he replaced the Portuguese Antonio Conceiçao in a press release.

Cameroon, who himself ordered the replacement of Antonio Conceiçao by Rigobert Song: “On very high instructions from the President of the Republic, the coach of the national men’s football team, Antonio Conceiçao, is replaced by Rigobert Song“Said the Minister of Sports Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, his remarks having been taken up by Fécafoot.

Since the last African Cup of Nations disputed in Cameroon, Conceiçao was on an ejection seat despite the third place won in the tournament. This decision, eminently political, will not fail to surprise since politicians are not supposed to have the right to interfere in the life of a selection or a federation.

Rigobert Song (45), considered a legend in Cameroon, will thus lead the Indomitable Lions during the play-offs of the 2022 World Cup, once morest Algeria. The first leg will be played on Friday March 25 at the Japoma stadium in Douala (6:00 p.m.), while the return match will take place on Tuesday March 29 at the Mustapha-Tchaker stadium in Blida (8:30 p.m.). Song (137 selections), who participated in 4 World Cups as a player, will be assisted by Frenchman Sébastien Minier. Cameroon coach at the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2018) in Morocco, a competition reserved for local players, Rigobert Song was knocked out in the first round.
