Cameroon: poor orientation of students source of school failure and unemployment

#Other countries : Knowing how to properly guide your child in his studies effectively reduces the risk of school failure and unemployment, which many young Cameroonians are victims of. Technical education then seems to be the way par excellence for rapid socio-economic integration.

The unemployment rate continues to climb in Cameroon. It increased to 6.1% in 2021 compared to the previous year which recorded 3.84%, according to the latest edition of sustainable development indicators published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The same source reveals that the underemployment rate is 65% with a predominance in the two major cities of the country, Yaoundé and Douala.

According to experts, several factors can explain the underemployment of young people, including inadequate education for sectors that are looking for more qualified professionals. The statisticians also note that approximately 60% of young working people in the 35-64 age group are in vocational training.

And at this level, most Cameroonians now have a high regard for technical education, once underestimated because many parents wanted to see their children become senior executives in the central administration (sub-prefects , prefects, governors, etc.).

Indeed, technical education allows for faster socio-economic integration of young people. After obtaining the Certificate of Professional Aptitude, for example, the laureate in carpentry can begin to manufacture his furniture and make it available to his customers.

Masons can erect the walls, and young people trained in the clothing industry will be able to make clothes. For all, it is clear that technical education facilitates the empowerment of young people, unlike general education which does not systematically lead to employment.

It is therefore crucial to properly guide children from an early age so that they are competitive once on the job market. It is a question of directing the children according to their abilities and granting them a framework capable of guaranteeing their success.
