Cameras now mandatory in buses; The name of the driver and conductor must be on the bus

SumThe government has made cameras mandatory in buses. Two closed circuit cameras should be installed in all stage carriage buses by February 28 to prevent competition and violations. These decisions were taken at a meeting convened by Transport Minister Antony Raju in Kochi.

The State Road Safety Authority will bear half of the cost of the camera. KSRTC Cameras will also be installed in buses. A WhatsApp number has also been established to report law violations in Kochi city. Complaints should be reported on 6238100100.

As part of the Safe Kerala Project, 826 cameras installed in the state will start functioning soon. . The supervision of private buses will be given separately to the officials of the Motor Vehicles Department. The number of the in-charge Motor Vehicles Department officer should also be displayed for the passengers to file complaints.

Vehicle location tracking device will also be monitored at the state level. To prevent competition, the minister asked the bus owners to discuss the decision to form a cluster of buses operating on the same route and share the revenue.

Drivers and conductors will be given free training and counseling once in six months under the leadership of Road Safety Authority.

Important instructions

  • Two cameras should be installed so that the front and inside of the road can be seen from the bus.
  • Information such as name, address and license number of the driver and conductor should be provided to the Motor Vehicle Department. It should also be displayed inside the bus.
  • Buses used for drug trafficking will be seized.
