The deputy municipal administrator for the Economic and Budget sector of Cambambe, province of Cuanza-Norte, José Macuanda Manda Fama, appealed this Wednesday, in Dondo, for greater investment by businesspeople, national and foreign, in the agricultural sector in the region.
The municipality, with 5 thousand and 212 square kilometers, has arable land and abundant water resources, as essential factors for the development of agriculture and livestock farming.
He mentioned that the Municipal Administration is open to granting land and reducing bureaucracy in legalization processes, within the framework of the Executive’s program to reduce hunger and combat poverty.
The manager made this statement at the opening session of the training session for technicians from the Cuanza-Norte Provincial Department of the Institute for Agrarian Development (IDA), which takes place in this district within the scope of the Family Farmers Resilience Strengthening Project (SREP, in its acronym English).
He maintained that the Executive is committed to promoting technical training, naming the agriculture sector as a source of quality in families’ diets and the consumption of local products.
According to the head of the IDA in Cuanza-Norte, Mateta Ngonzo, 35 technicians from the agrarian development stations in five municipalities included in the SREP program, namely Cambambe, Cazengo, Lucala, Samba Cajú and Ambaca.
During the event, topics such as “the rational use of fertilizers”, “training curriculum”, “contours”, “seed calculation” and cassava cuttings will be covered.
SREP is a program initiated by the Angolan Government, which intervenes with 10 million USD, co-financed by the International Fund for Agrarian Development (IFAD), with 51.5 million USD, and the French Development Agency (AFD), with 42 million.
Since its implementation in Cuanza-Norte, in 2020, it has allowed the creation of 111 Field Schools (ECA) in these municipalities, and will integrate, by 2026, a universe of 36 thousand and 335 families, corresponding to 7 thousand and 277 families per municipality, distributed in 835 ECA. Its objective is to improve cultivation techniques in communities, increase production and product quality.
