The Verona Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened a file to investigate a case involving Chico Forti. The Corriere della Sera and the Fatto Quotidiano report it. “An inmate in the Montorio prison confided that the former surfing champion, who has been locked up there for over a month, asked him to contact some ‘ndrangheta members to silence Marco Travaglio, Selvaggia Lucarelli and a third person,” writes the Corriere. “In exchange, Forti promised him future help, as soon as he manages to obtain his freedom.”
Verona’s chief prosecutor, Raffaele Tito, says: “I confirm the investigation, we have already notified the institutions and heard all the possible protagonists. For us, of course, it’s not nonsense, but I won’t add anything else.” According to what Corriere hypothesizes, “the motive” might be a headline from Il Fatto on May 19, “Welcome Murderer.”
«Travaglio and Lucarelli – writes the Milanese newspaper – were outraged by the welcome, in particular by Giorgia Meloni, who had received Forti upon his arrival in Rome», once he returned from the Florida penitentiary where he was serving a life sentence for the murder of Dale Pike, committed in 1998.
