The Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism and the Technical Cooperation Service announced the start of applications for the Strengthening and Creation of Cooperatives program, which provides financing and technical support to support the productive development of these organizations in the country.
The initiative seeks to strengthen the cooperative system, through the implementation of a work plan aimed at the formation or improvement of the management capacity of cooperatives, based on sustainable governance, a business model and a commercial strategy.
To this end, it contemplates a subsidy of $8 million for groups of people who want to create a cooperative and $20 million for already established cooperatives that seek to strengthen them. In both cases, the groups that are selected will have technical support on the ground for a period of seven months to enhance the business model and commercial strategy of the cooperative.
The program has a budget of $1,251 million, which is expected to benefit 67 cooperatives throughout the country.
The call was launched by the Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Nicolás Grau, and the general manager of Sercotec, María José Becerra Moro, who visited the Mercado Mapuche cooperative, a space created in the Barrio Italia, in Santiago, as a showcase for make visible and market products with indigenous identity made in different parts of the country.
