Call of Duty: Mobile has also turned out to be a box office hit for Activision, but in the medium term the mobile offshoot of the shooter series might probably be replaced and disappear. At least that’s what a new statement from Microsoft suggests.
The British CMA is also further investigating the planned takeover of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft – and in the course of this the Redmond company has to comment in more detail on various topics so that the antitrust authorities can wave the planned deal through. This also brought to light an interesting message regarding the successful mobile shooter Call of Duty: Mobile.
If you believe new words from Microsoft in a statement, then the shooter offshoot for iOS and Android will “phase out” in the medium term. Call of Duty fans who like to gamble on the go will then have to reorient themselves, because: The previous offshoot is to be replaced by the new Warzone Mobile, which will be released later this year.
The UK Competition and Markets Authority specifically said on the subject: “It is expected that CoD: Mobile (outside of China) will expire over time due to the release of Warzone Mobile.”
The statement leaves little room for interpretation regarding the future of Call of Duty: Mobile, although Microsoft leaves open a specific point in time when the spin-off will no longer be supported. At the same time, Activision Blizzard itself has not yet commented on the subject and confirmed this fact.
Warzone Mobile might be the shooter brand’s next big hit, however, with more than 25 million pre-registrations for the game already.
