Call of Duty and FIFA 23 dominate the sales market in Europe

During October, PS5 sales in Europe surpassed Switch sales for the first time since September 2021. However, the shortage of PS5 components is far from over, and the number of PS5s sold this month is lower than the number for the same period last year. It is above all the drop in the number of Switches sold that allows Sony to take the lead in monthly sales, the Switch Oled effect starting to fade. It should also be noted that despite lower European sales, Microsoft is the only manufacturer that can boast of an increase between October 2021 and October 2022, the sale of the Xbox Series having jumped by 26% over the period.

All consoles combined, 11.9 million games were purchased on the old continent this month, including around seven million in digital sales. Two games shared the main piece of the pie: FIFA 23 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. What do these two franchises have in common? The release of a new opus each year, with more or less numerous novelties…Despite everything, the overdose does not seem relevant for the players who continue to respond, ignoring the sometimes negative reviews.

The unchallenged domination of these two monsters also tends to show the current domination of games offering a developed online multiplayer mode. Proof of this is Splatoon 3’s seventh place in game sales in Europe for this month, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s tenth. Finally, in view of these sales, Rockstar can afford to take its time to release its GTA6…
