Call for compulsory vaccination, but only from the age of 60

The number of infections rose once more. Meanwhile, two experts advocate targeted vaccination.

Wien. The Head of the Bioethics Commission, Christiane Druml, is in favor of rethinking compulsory corona vaccination. Druml advises focusing primarily on individual groups such as people in healthcare professions, people aged 60 and over and patients of all ages at risk.

This was reported by the “Kurier”. The virologist argued similarly Dorothee von Laer on Thursday in the parliamentary health committee. Von Laer also suggested limiting compulsory vaccination to over 60-year-olds. The virus cannot be eradicated, but compulsory vaccination for particularly vulnerable groups might help prevent the health system from being overloaded, emphasized the virologist. After all, vaccinations would provide good protection once morest serious illnesses and thus significantly reduce hospitalizations.

Druml also said that the goal must be to protect the health system from being overloaded. “By vaccinating those who are most likely to become seriously ill with corona disease or those who work with vulnerable groups, you might achieve a good effect,” she said.

Within 24 hours on Friday, 8155 new corona infections were reported by the Ministry of Health and the Interior. That is above the average of the past seven days with 7957. Last Friday there were 9790 new cases. The seven-day incidence in Austria was 620.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the day before it was 638.5. (APA)
