CALL FOR COMPOSITIONS: Ink Still Wet Composer Conductor-Workshop – mica

2023-09-26 07:15:00

A central pillar of the Grafenegg Festival is the Composer in Residence program, which every year puts a renowned personality in contemporary music in the spotlight. During their stay in Grafenegg, the respected composers will premiere their own works, but will also be available to give advice and assistance to colleagues as part of the Ink Still Wet workshop.

Ziel des Composer Conductor-Workshops Ink Still Wet is to create a platform for composers and to promote creative and constructive exchange between audiences, musicians and performing musicians.

Under the direction of the respective composer in residence Grafenegg Festivals is the intention of Ink Still Wet-Workshops to provide inspiration for the creation of new works for orchestras. The workshop also offers the opportunity to rehearse and perform your own work with a professional orchestra. This should also provide a new perspective on one’s own work. The works of all participants will be presented in a final concert as part of the Grafenegg Festivals presented to the public.

The past few years have shown how important and complex the experiences of this workshop are for composers. What previously only existed in their heads or on paper must now prove itself in exchange with the performing musicians and then on the big concert stage. Do the tonal ideas pass the practical test or do they need to be sharpened? How can one or another musical idea perhaps be better recorded? Or more fundamentally: How do you as a composer confront a long-established professional orchestra, how do you explain or defend your musical ideas if necessary?

Ink Still Wet provides insights into all phases of an exciting work and rehearsal process. Both the final concert and the individual workshops are free and open to visitors, students and interested parties.

Ink Still Wet will take place for the 14th time in 2024.
