Call for a strike by three hospital unions for the beginning of July

2023-06-11 11:21:14

These unions, namely the CMH, the INPH and the Snam-HP, denounce a situation of unprecedented gravity in public hospitals and demand the immediate resumption of negotiations with the Ministry of Health. According to the unions, the public hospital is in the process of collapse in whole sections. They claim that the once respected medical profession has become a real foil, both for young doctors who refuse to commit to the hospital and for doctors of all ages who resign more and more frequently. These alarming figures indicate a deep crisis in the health sector.

The three unions represent a significant proportion of practitioners, with more than 40% of the profession and even 70% of university hospitals. On the strength of this representativeness, they exert pressure on the Ministry of Health in order to obtain satisfaction (source 1).

Claims already known

The main point of claim is a general salary increase to take into account rising inflation. In addition, the unions demand an immediate increase in on-call, night and weekend on-call duty, because these working conditions are considered particularly difficult for hospital doctors.

This mobilization of doctors comes following that of the unions of civil servants, who have scheduled for action on June 20. It is clear that the problems facing the public hospital are causing widespread dissatisfaction among medical and non-medical staff. This strike announced for July 4 is a strong signal sent by the doctors’ unions to draw attention to the crisis affecting the public hospital.
