“California has a new Powerball BILLIONAIRE,” tweeted the state body managing the lottery in this southwestern state of the United States, where a winning ticket had already won more than 2 billion in November.
The lucky winner of this Wednesday will have to choose between receiving the entire 1.08 billion which was at stake via payments spread over three decades, or being paid in one go, up to 558.1 million dollars, according to a Powerball estimate.
However, the winner will have to pay a tax rate on their winnings of 37%, since the US tax authorities consider this to be ordinary income, according to the Washington Post, which adds that it is only the third once the jackpot exceeds $1 billion.
To win the jackpot, players must guess which six numbers will be drawn, with the odds of this happening being one in 292.2 million.
The winning numbers on Wednesday were 7, 10, 11, 13, 24 and for the Powerball, once more 24.
The next draw for this lottery, which will take place on Saturday, will see the jackpot skyrocket to 20 million.
