The Calgary Flames turned things around to defeat the Nashville Predators 4-2 on Tuesday. In the victory, forward Jonathan Huberdeau remained on the bench throughout the third period.
Huberdeau had not recorded a shot in just over 14 minutes of play following two periods. He did not get any presence on the ice during the final third. This season, the Quebec striker has been limited to two goals and four assists and has a dismal rating of minus-12.
“I thought Huberdeau didn’t have a good night and we went with other players,” Flames head coach Ryan Huska said following the game.
The start of the match did not suggest a happy outcome for the Alberta team which played in front of its supporters. Michael McCarron redirected the disc in the fifth minute of play into the back of the net for his first goal of the campaign.
About ten minutes later, Kiefer Sherwood gave Nashville a two-goal lead when he got the better of Jacob Markstrom.
Dillon Dube brought the Flames within a goal in the middle period and at the start of the third period, Noah Hanifin beat Juuse Saros with a shot from the top of the slot to tie the game. A little less than two minutes later, Blake Coleman flashed the red light when he decided to shoot on a two-on-one downhill.
Nazem Kadri collected his second point of the game late in the game when he confirmed the Flames’ victory with an empty-net goal. Markstrom was not very busy in front of his net with only 19 shots received.
Saros suffered the defeat even though he blocked 35 pucks.
