**Host:** Welcome back to Archyde Talks. Today we’re joined by Carlo Calenda, leader of the Action party, following his fiery remarks in the Senate earlier this week regarding the government’s handling of the budget law. Mr. Calenda, thank you for joining us.



**Calenda:** Thank you for having me.



**Host:** Your words in the Senate were very strong, particularly your assertion that there’s a “carelessness” permeating the government’s decision-making. Could you elaborate on that?



**Calenda:** Absolutely. What we witnessed during the budget law debate wasn’t simply a disagreement on policy. It was a symptom of a deeper malaise within our political system. There’s a lack of seriousness, a sense that decisions aren’t being made with the gravity thay deserve. This carelessness stems from a fundamental weakness: the impotence of our political system to hold leaders accountable and ensure qualified individuals are in positions of power.



**Host:** You mentioned “political impotence.” What specifically do you mean by that?



**Calenda:** Our political system is plagued by short-term thinking, factionalism, and a lack of vision. We seem more concerned with scoring political points than addressing the long-term challenges facing our nation. This creates an surroundings where qualified individuals are discouraged from entering politics,and those who do often prioritize personal gain over the common good.



**Host:** So, your suggesting this “carelessness” is a direct result of having unqualified leaders in power?



**Calenda:** it is certainly a contributing factor. When those in power lack the experience, the expertise, or the commitment to effective governance, it naturally breeds carelessness. They become more susceptible to pressure from special interests, less focused on long-term solutions, and more prone to making decisions that ultimately harm the nation.



**Host:** You’ve been a vocal critic of the current government. What would you propose as a solution to this “political impotence” and the resulting carelessness?



**Calenda:** We need a fundamental shift in our political culture. We need to prioritize competency, integrity, and long-term vision over short-term political maneuvering. This means strengthening our institutions, promoting openness and accountability, and encouraging a new generation of leaders committed to serving the public good. It won’t be easy, but it is essential if we are to overcome this crisis of governance.
