Owner of the former Umicore factory near the port of Calais, the Hauts-de-France Region is looking for a candidate to take over the site.

According to Cerema, a public establishment which supports local authorities in the development of their development projects, the call for expressions of interest is “ a method of pre-selection of candidates who will be invited to tender during future public procurement procedures (restricted calls for tender or competitive procedure with negotiation) ».

“Economic nugget”

This week, the Hauts-de-France Region has just joined this system to “ a tertiary building with a car park and a hangar on the Calais port site, Quai de la Loire. Former Umicore website “. This call is intended to “ all economic project leaders wishing to settle in the port of Boulogne-Calais in order to develop an activity linked to the port economy “. Remember that the Region became the owner of the premises in the summer of 2022, purchasing the 167,000 m² (the equivalent of 23 football fields) for 3.9 million euros.

This large area, described at the time as “ economic nugget » by the former president of the port Jean-Marc Puissesseau, is therefore composed of a building of 720 m² on two floors with a car park of 33 spaces (lot n°1) and a hangar of 800 m² (lot n° 2). In return for occupying these properties, the future owners undertake to pay an annual fee to the Region. Candidates have until November 8 to apply to the community.

Note that the Region has also undertaken to buy the land neighboring the former Tioxide factory from Venator, the last owner of the premises. A transaction worth around 10 million euros for the 56.5 hectares of the site.
