Gathered this Tuesday at the Business and Territories show, the directors of the port and the tunnel displayed a great bond, indicating that the competition came more from the Netherlands and Belgium than from their respective tools.
The Gambetta Forum seemed too narrow this Tuesday to accommodate the 80 exhibitors and more than 800 visitors to the twelfth Business and Territories show, reserved for professionals and organized by the Coteo company. This year, the organizers had the good idea of bringing together on their platform the director of the Calais-Boulogne port, Benoît Rochet, and his counterpart from Getlink (formerly Eurotunnel) Yann Leriche. A photo that we didn’t necessarily imagine possible just a few years ago…
Maintain a link with the territory
« I’ll be clearindicates Yann Leriche. We and the port are in competition. But you don’t have to be stupid. Our main competitors are in the Netherlands and Belgium, not near us. They took market share from us. We need to have a more global picture. In fact, we are complementary. We offer a solution for all carriers. It’s like in a shopping center. When you can’t find what you need in one store, another will offer it to you. »
The two leaders say they like each other. And both have a desire to defend the territory. “ And Calais is strong, we will be stronger. And I wish success at the port. But a little less than us », laughs Yann Leriche. Benoît Rochet wants to maintain a strong link with the city: “ When we look at us from the outside, we see equipment in the distance, with a frustration at not getting closer. The risk is to become detached from the city. So we want to maintain this link. » The port experienced a 25% increase in attendance this summer, bringing it closer to the figures before the health crisis.
