Cajal and the Spanish School of Histology: Exploring the Life and Scientific Achievements of Santiago Ramón y Cajal

Madrid, Oct 21 (EFE).- ‘Cajal and the Spanish School of Histology’ is the title of the exhibition hosted by the Royal Academy of Medicine in Madrid with the aim of making visitors aware of the relevance it has in the world the work of the Spanish doctor and scientist Santiago Ramón y Cajal.

In the exhibition, which will remain open until January 31, 2024, there is the CV handwritten by Santiago Ramón y Cajal himself (Petilla de Aragón, Navarra, May 1, 1852 – Madrid, October 17, 1934), his doctoral dose, documents from his time as an academic at the Royal Academy of Medicine of Spain, his first books and the milestones of his scientific work.

These include the neuron theory, the theory of dynamic polarization, the ontogenic method of research, and the regeneration and degeneration of nervous tissue.

In addition, you can see a small laboratory with the basic instruments and microscopes of the time that he used, as well as another section dedicated to one of his favorite activities such as photography, including color photography.

In a statement, Professor Antonio Campos Muñoz, one of the curators of the exhibition, highlights that Ramón y Cajal in one of his books “already set out rules and advice for young researchers, as well as his fundamental ideas regarding their mentality and conduct.”

Furthermore, he highlights that more than 100 years following Cajal received the Nobel Prize, his work continues to be the most cited of all classical authors. EFE
