CAITLIN Clark, who broke records on and off the court while playing in the United States (US) university basketball competition, was selected number one in the WNBA draft, Tuesday (16/4) WIB.
Clark is expected to bring major changes to the US women’s professional basketball league.
The 22-year-old basketball player was selected by the Indiana Fever, a team that has not appeared in the playoffs since 2016 and has the second lowest attendance record in the WNBA in 2023 with an average of 4,066 spectators per game.
The arrival of the University of Iowa star following Aliyah Boston last season is expected to change that.
In anticipation of the US public’s interest in Clark’s appearance, WNA has scheduled live broadcasts of 36 of the 40 matches the Fever will play next season.
Even before the WNBA draft was held, the Fever had already sold a number of game tickets, they were optimistic that Clark-mania would hit their team.
As a result, tickets for the Fever’s matches once morest the Connecticut Sun and Los Angeles Sparks were sold out within a few hours.
Clark, who broke Pete Maravich’s collegiate points record which had stood for 54 years, received an extraordinary welcome when he attended the WNBA draft. (AFP/Z-1)
