Customs men in the second department of Terminal 2 at Cairo International Airport, headed by Sobhi Rabih Jaber, Director of the Department, were able to seize an attempt to smuggle a number of precious Rolex watches, in violation of Customs Law No. 207 of 2020 and Import and Export Law No. 118 of 1975.
During the completion of inspection procedures for passengers coming from the Emirates on the Emirates Airlines flight coming from Dubai, a French passenger was suspected, while trying to exit the customs committee gate by passing his bags on the X-ray scanner, showing similar densities inside the passenger’s bags.
A customs committee was formed to inspect the passenger’s luggage, and it was found that there were 9 original Rolex watches with an estimated value of more than 4 million pounds.
Ahmed Saad Abdel Muttalib, Director General of Customs at Terminal 2 at Cairo International Airport, decided to take legal measures, issue customs seizure report No. 22 of 2023, and seize the seizures.
This comes in implementation of the instructions of Shahat Ghaturi, head of the Customs Authority, to tighten control over customs outlets and airports and to thwart all attempts of customs evasion.
