Unveiled in late 2021, the Maeving RM1 was one of the first electric cafe-racers designed to evoke the raw look of motorcycling, in the form of an electric two-wheeler. The brand has since been working on the British market and has just announced its expansion into France.
Originally designed to offer less polluting and less noisy travel, electric motorcycles are not immune to the trend of personalization. Thus, the actors of the sector did not hesitate to express themselves, with their personal touch. Predictably, neo-retro-styled motorcycles lead the pack, sporting an ever-interesting cafe racer style. The same goes for the Maeving RM1.
Maeving RM1 is preparing to travel the French roads
Launched in 2021, the British motorcycle quickly made headlines. The reason : its quality and style widely appeal to motorcyclists. In fact, the Maeving RM1 stands out for its style, which makes it a charming electric two-wheeler. Thoroughly retro and undoubtedly classic, the RM1 even features a side pipe reminiscent of the British twin’s exhaust system.
The steel cradle frame with its exposed tubes looks deliberately archaic, which further adds to the bike’s charm. While the 37mm fork and wire-spoke wheels give the bike a minimalist look.
The whole bike weighs only 111 kilograms, which allows users to ride relaxed, whether at high speeds or crawling in city traffic. Currently, all Maeving RM1s are manufactured in Coventry, UK and shipped to France. The price is then quite expensive: 7.395 euros for the single battery option and 8.490 euros for the dual battery option.
At the time of writing this article, pre-orders for this retro-style electric motorcycle are already open, for a deposit of 500 euros.
After launching the brand in the French market, Maeving also plans to expand to other European markets. More specifically, it hopes to set up in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
The ideal solution for urban use
In terms of performance, the Maeving RM1 is a strictly urban vehicle, thanks to its rather modest power. It uses a 3 kilowatt electric motor mounted in the rear hub. This engine reaches a maximum power of 4.4 kilowatts. That’s regarding 6 horsepower, comparable to that of a 50cc four-stroke moped. With a torque of 160 Nm, the RM1 should have no trouble climbing the steep slopes of the French countryside. However, its maximum speed is limited to 75 km/h.
Range has always been a topic of debate when it comes to electric motorcycles. And so is the Maeving RM1. According to the company, the RM1 can travel up to 65 kilometers with a single charge
