Drama in the cable car cabins. One person was killed and seven others injured when a cable car pylon collapsed outside the Turkish resort of Antalya, authorities said Friday.
Helicopters equipped with night vision were called in to rescue 184 people still trapped in cable car cabins, Antalya Mayor Muhittin Bocek said in a statement. “Our specialized teams are on site. God willing, we will save them all in a short time,” Bocek said.
Five people evacuated by helicopter
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the death and injuries occurred when one of the Sarisu-Tunektepe cable car cabins plunged into a rocky area following the pylon collapse. Five people who were in the cabin were evacuated by helicopter, while two others are still waiting to be rescued, he said on X.
Unfortunately, one of our citizens lost his life and 7 people were injured as a result of the collapse of one of the poles carrying the cable car line in Antalya Konyaaltı today.
Civil Inspectors were assigned to the incident.

About 110 rescue workers were sent to the crash site, Yerlikaya said, while other mountaineering specialists were flown in from other parts of Turkey. A group of 10 opposition MPs also visited the site to “investigate the accident in detail”, said Ozgur Ozel, chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP).
