Coronavirus in Venezuela

Nicolás Maduro confirmed this Tuesday afternoon that there has been a gradual increase in coronavirus cases in the country. This, he said, is due to the arrival of the omicron variant.

He assured that although it has not been an accelerated growth, a gradual increase of the virus has been reported for about four days.

«I have to say for all Venezuelans that the omicron arrival has given a significant increase in all countries. In Venezuela the increase in cases has been gradual. Not sped up yet. We have been increasing the cases for three, no, four days. More than 500 cases a day nationwide, “he said.

He reported that this Tuesday the country reported 570 community infections, and 28 imported.

He also detailed that the incidence is 6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. “We cannot lower our guard, the omicron is gaining strength worldwide, we must not trust ourselves,” he said.

Maduro also indicated that 98% of the infected people have recovered. He said that there are currently 3,216 people hospitalized, 1,627 in Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers and 919 in private clinics.
