CABEI launches scholarship programs for more than $6.4 million to guarantee access to education for young people

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) launched this Friday, February 11, two broad programs with the purpose of supporting access to online education to its 2020-2024 institutional strategy. With these programs, granted through its Social Support Foundation (FAS-BCIE), with a financing of more than $6.4 million, it seeks to benefit more than 1,200 young people in the region.

These are the Bicentennial Scholarships and the CABEI-Zamorano Foundation Scholarships, programs that aim to guarantee access to education, intermediate in the first case and higher in the second, for low-income youth from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Belize, Cuba, in addition to Colombia in the case of CABEI-Zamorano Foundation Scholarships.

“We are pleased today to tell you regarding the work carried out by FAS-CABEI for the benefit of the region and these two important initiatives with which we seek to provide the necessary academic tools to the workforce of the future that we know will translate into development for our region, the Caribbean and Colombia”, stressed the executive president of CABEI, Dante Mossi, at a press conference.

“Our objective at FAS-CABEI is to promote projects of a social nature through financial support for young people with academic excellence who wish to finish their studies in secondary school, or specialize in agriculture, so that they have the necessary tools for that purpose. ”, explained the manager of the CABEI Social Support Foundation, Jaejin Lee.

Bicentennial Scholarships

The Bicentennial Scholarship program is aimed at low-income student population attending high school in the CABEI member countries that make up the Central American Integration System (SICA), and Cuba, and has a total cost of $5.6 million during the execution period. : 2022-2028.

Through the initiative, in a joint effort between CABEI, FAS-CABEI and the Ministries of Education or Secretariats designated by the governments, a minimum of 25 and a maximum of 50 scholarships per beneficiary partner country will be awarded annually, for a total of at least 1,125 young people who will have the resources to cover expenses in activities and tools that guarantee their quality education such as teaching materials, electronic devices, connectivity, uniforms, food, among others.

The educational centers and the beneficiaries will be selected by each Ministry or Secretariat and must meet requirements such as financial need, outstanding performance in studies, merits and general credentials, as well as meeting the additional criteria defined by FAS-CABEI.

CABEI-Zamorano Foundation Scholarships

For its part, the CABEI-Zamorano Foundation Scholarship program aims to provide low-income students with academic excellence from the SICA region, Cuba and Colombia the opportunity to specialize in sustainable agriculture, agribusiness and natural resources at the Zamorano Pan-American Agricultural School. . This is a non-reimbursable financing equivalent to a total of $844,000 to cover undergraduate programs with a duration of four years in the period 2022-2026. It will start with an annual scholarship per country and an additional one will be added each year until reaching 40 among the 10 countries in 2026. Those interested can apply for the admission scholarship in 2023 from now until October through the site www.zamorano.edu, where your applications will be evaluated by a Selection Committee. As requirements, they must prove: financial need, academic excellence, merits and general credentials, among others defined in the BCIEZamorano program that will be evaluated.
