CABA’s food basket rose 5.52% so far in September

According to a new survey of Free Consumers in supermarkets and neighborhood businesses, the basic food basket of the City of Buenos Aires increased 5,52% in the first half of September.

Meanwhile, the entity explained that this basic basket has accumulated an increase of 102,97%.

This report is carried out with the analysis of 21 products, which make up three specific items: Warehouse, Fruit and Vegetables and Meats.

Regarding meats, as in August, it was the division that presented the greatest variation: so far this month it has increased 7,48%.

Inflation: almost 60% of Argentines already live on less than US$210 per month

After inflation reached 12.4% in August, different consulting firms assure that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) will once once more be 2 digits and might be around 11%.

Item by item

Of the 9 products that make up the articles of Store Surveyed, sugar was what increased the most with an increase of 10%, going from a value of $1,000 to $1,100 per kilo. So far this year, it has increased almost 219%. This was followed by fresh bread (6.25%) and rice (5.77%).

  • Fine Grain Rice, 1 kilo: from $520 to $550 – 5.77%
  • Ledesma sugar, 1 kilo: from $1000 to $1100- 10%
  • Stewed Noodles, 500 grams: from $530 to $560 – 5.66%
  • Wheat Flour, 1 kilo: from $480 to $490 – 2.08%
  • Color Eggs, Dozen: from $1580 to $1600- 1.27%
  • Fresh Bread, 1 kilo: from $800 to $850 – 6.25%
  • Milk with Fortified Vitamins, per liter: from $610 to $630 – 3.28%
  • Yerba Mate Taragui, 1 kg: from $1750 to $1790 – 2.29%

Total Warehouse: The sum of the mentioned products went from $8,970 to $9,150, with an increase of 4.10% in the first 15 days of September and 99.56% so far this year.

For its part, in Fruits and vegetables The increase in eggplants stands out with 8.70% and the decrease of 3.33% in chard. Meanwhile, as in August, carrots did not present variations.

  • Carrots, 1 kilo: $390, same value as in August and July
  • Eggplants, 1 kilo: from $690 to $750- 8.70%
  • Tomate Perita, 1 kilo: $990 to $1020 – 3.03%
  • Onion, 1 kilo: from $380 to $390 – 2.63%
  • Black Potato, 1 kilo: from $650 to $690 – 6.15%
  • Chard, per package: from $300 to $290 – -3.33%
  • Orange, 1 kilo: from $650 to $620 – -4.62%
  • Apple, 1 kilo: from $980 to $1020- 4.08%

Total Fruits and Vegetables: The sum of the mentioned products went from $5,000 to $5,190, with an increase of 3.80% in the first half of September and 103.53% so far this year

As for the four meat cuts that are monitored by the entity (loin ball, roast, shoulder and common minced meat), the greatest increase was that of the shoulder with 9.52%, followed by roast with 8.01%.

  • Lomo Ball, 1 kilo: from $3,250 to $3,500 – 7.69%
  • Roast, 1 kilo: from $2,870 to $3,100 – 8.01%
  • Shoulder, 1 kilo: from $2,730 to $2,990 – 9.52%
  • Common Minced Meat, 1 kilo: from $1,980 to 2050 – 3.54%

Total Carnes: The sum of the mentioned products went from $10,830 to $11,640, with an increase of 7.48% for the first days of the month and 105.47% so far this year

In this way, and considering all the data recorded by Free Consumers, the expense of this “basic basket” of 21 food products amounted so far in September at $25,980, compared to the $24,620 it cost in August.
