He is a child and adolescent surgeon and a successful cabaret artist. In the LN interview, Omar Sarsam goes into more detail regarding his connection to the Lungau.
About 20 years ago, Omar Sarsam started in front of 15 to 20 people at the Niedermair cabaret in Vienna. Today he fills large halls in German-speaking countries and performs well over a hundred times a year: “The first program is always the simplest. I packed a lot of experiences from my life into it. The second is the most difficult – it has to be the same if not be even funnier. It will be easier following the third, “says the 42-year-old in the LN interview.
Comedy just happened: “In the middle of my studies, I tried my hand at improvisational theater.” Eventually it became more. “I was always enthusiastic regarding music as a child and discovered a fascination for all musical instruments.” 17 years ago he finally met his wife, a native of Lungau, at her birthday party in Vienna. One of the first joint concerts was the Querschläger in the backdrop in Vienna. Today the two are married and parents of two sons: “My wife was my manager for the first few years – until I fired her so that I might have her back as a wife.” He sees his “side job” as a cabaret artist as a privilege: “I’m allowed to go on stage, talk nonsense and sing bad songs. It’s a win-win job and it’s a privilege that makes you happy.”
In Mariapfarr, the surgeon and cabaret artist regularly gathers strength with his family. In 2017, he missed a few weeks of trauma surgery as part of his medical training. He also got to know the people and the region even better in the Tamsweg state clinic: “Through the personal closeness, medicine starts on a completely different level.”
And what do you like best regarding the Lungau? “My wife (laughs). I feel very comfortable here and say, ‘I’ll stay somewhere’.”
