O C6 Bank, one of the main digital banks in Brazil, announced a new increase in the maintenance fee for those who have a fintech payment account. From January 1, 2024, customers who opted for this type of account will have to pay R$6 per month, an increase of 50% compared to the current value of R$4.
This is the second time that C6 Bank has readjusted this rate in less than a year, which generated dissatisfaction and criticism on social media. The company’s payment account is an account category that only allows transactions via prepaid card or Pix, and does not offer services such as withdrawals, transfers, bills or investments.

According to C6 Bank, charging the maintenance fee aims to cover the operational costs of the payment account, which does not generate revenue for the fintech. The company states that customers can migrate to a current account for free, which has no monthly fee and offers more benefits and features compared to prepaid.
However, many customers complain that they are unable to make this migration or that they prefer to keep the payment account for personal reasons. Some also question whether C6 Bank is becoming a traditional “bank”, which charges abusive fees and does not care regarding customer satisfaction, considering its average reputation on Reclame Aqui.
According to Tecnoblog, some payment account users have already been notified regarding the monthly fee adjustment that comes into effect next month. In a note to the portal, C6 Bank said that “the change only impacts a portion of payment account holders.”
