United Nations (New York) – The countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have reaffirmed, in a statement at the annual meeting of the UN Committee of 24, their constant support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
In this statement read out by the representative of the Sultanate of Oman on behalf also of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the GCC countries reiterate “the importance of the special strategic partnership between the Council and the Kingdom of Morocco and the implementation of the joint action plan, as well as the positions of the Gulf Cooperation Council and its constant decisions in support of the Moroccan character of the Sahara and the preservation of security, the stability and territorial integrity of Morocco”.
In this regard, the Council welcomed the latest UN Security Council resolutions on the Moroccan Sahara.
The GCC States also expressed their support for all the efforts made by Morocco and the international community to reach a political solution to this regional dispute, recalling the importance for all parties to demonstrate wisdom, realism and in a spirit of compromise.
They stressed that the settlement of this dispute can contribute to the achievement of peace and stability in the region.
