Byron Castillo: the audio in which he would confess that he was born in Colombia – International Soccer – Sports

Ecuador is in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. However, the Chilean Football Federation, and incidentally that of Peru, try to open the case once more in the Fifa to try to find a place in the World Cup, due to a bad registration of the player Byron Castillo.

Fifa had already dismissed Chile’s complaint and ratified Ecuador’s classification, considering that the player’s registration to play in the tie was in order. However, the player was summoned to testify on September 15, although as a witness.

Now, new elements appear in the investigation. The Daily Mail newspaper claims to have a statement from the player in which he confesses that he used a false passport and that he was actually born in Tumaco (Colombia)..

The post claims that Ecuador might be expelled from the World Cup for this situation. “An extraordinary story involving alleged false identities and an apparent cover-up by the Ecuadorian Federation centers on the question of whether Castillo, a right back who made eight appearances in World Cup qualifying, was born in the country or across the border with Colombia,” he says.

Daily Mail publishes an audio in which Castillo himself talks regarding four elements that would complicate his situation. The first, the year of his birth: 1995, instead of 1998, as his Ecuadorian documentation states.

The second is the player’s full name. In the recording, he assures that his name is Bayron Javier Castillo Segura, which coincides with the civil registry of birth of Colombia that the Chilean Federation presented. In the Ecuadorian papers he appears as Byron David Castillo Segura.

In addition, the player talks regarding how he left Tumaco for the Ecuadorian city of San Lorenzo in search of an opportunity in Ecuadorian soccer, and talks regarding how a businessman from that country was the one who provided him with the new identity.

The interview was conducted in 2018 and is part of an investigation carried out by the Ecuadorian Football Federation, whose conclusions were delivered in December of that year.

The investigation was opened following Castillo’s transfer from the Norteamerica club to Emelec was frustrated in 2015, due to irregularities in the player’s documentation.

Although the North America was sanctioned by the FEF, the same entity authorized Castillo and allowed him to act with Ecuadorian documentation, reports the Daily Mail.

Ecuador will be Qatar’s rival in the opening match of the World Cup, on November 20, so these new revelations might complicate the development of the tournament.
