The Chinese electric vehicle brand BYD lent a unit of the Tan SUV, the model that began the brand’s presence in Brazil, to the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the First Lady Janja Lula da Silva for a period of 1 year.
The lending contract (loan) was signed on Wednesday (24) in a meeting between Tyler Li, president of BYD Brasil, Lula and Janja, as well as other representatives of the Federal Government’s top leadership. The ceremony took placethe Alvorada Palace.

According to the terms of the contract, BYD Tan’s loan to the Chief Executive ends on January 23, 2025 and the Presidency needs to return the electric vehicle in the same way it received it, paying for any maintenance during the period.
BYD highlighted that the loan has the exclusive purpose of “testing and product knowledge” by the president. If the car suffers irreversible damage, the government will have to pay the value of the item to the Chinese company within 30 days.
Currently, the BYD Tan costs R$529,890 on the automaker’s website and the t modelin four-wheel drive and is equipped with two electric motors, one on each axle. The front engine delivers 245 hp and the rear another 272 hp.
Therefore, the combined power of the Tan’s two engines is 517 hp, which allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. Inside, the 15.6-inch multimedia center stands out and can be positioned both horizontally and vertically.

Furthermore, the instrument panel is 100% digital and has 12.3”. Tan still has a panoramic sunroof, soft-touch panel, multifunctional steering wheel with electric depth and height adjustment, 6 airbags, automatic emergency braking and other features.
Upon handing over the vehicle to President Lula, BYD executives also reinforced the brand’s investment plans in Brazil, especially in relation to the beginning of works of the factory in Camaçari, Bahiascheduled to begin in the 1st quarter of 2024.
